Special Educational Needs and Disability (S.E.N.D)

St John's Angell Town C of E Primary School is an inclusive one-form entry, voluntary aided Church of England primary school. The school has strong links with St John the Evangelist Church . The two establishments sit side by side geographically and metaphorically . The school and the church share common aims and values. There is a long-established partnership between the school and church, spanning more than a century.

Our Christian ethos underpins policies and practices. Christian values are at the heart of all aspects of our school life, providing a safe and happy learning environment where children are encouraged to develop respect, self-esteem and confidence. We aim to find exciting ways to educate using the latest technological developments.

St John's entered into a partnership with Christ Church Streatham in October 2017. Staff work across both schools, sharing expertise and resources and raising standards. We are committed to providing high-quality education and believe that all children are entitled to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum.

The partnership is committed to inclusion. We strive to eliminate prejudice and discrimination and to develop an environment where all children can flourish and feel safe. We aim to engender a sense of community and belonging and offer new opportunities to all learners. This does not mean that we will treat all learners the same way but that we will respond to learners in ways that account for their varied life experiences and needs.

All Lambeth maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with special educational needs and are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with special educational needs and or disabilities being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible, where families want this to happen.

The school will meet the needs of children with the following SEND:

  • Communication and interaction
  • Cognition and learning
  • Social, mental and emotional health
  • Sensory/physical
